Pique Dame at Teatro alla Scala

This February and March, Ms. Grigorian returns to the Teatro alla Scala for the first time since her house debut there in 2019. Acclaimed for her celebrated female character roles in Tchaikovsky’s operas, she performs the role of Lisa in Pique Dame. First premiered in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, this opera is based on Alexander Pushkin’s dark tale of obsession, greed, and death. Ms. Grigorian was praised for her performance of the role last year: “the voice, of lyrical essence, is capable of magnificent dramatic flights without the quality of the timbre (absolutely superb) nor that of the song ever suffering” (Bachtrack) as she made her house debut at L’Opéra de Paris alongside Baritone Étienne Dupuis. This time, Asmik is joined by colleagues Najmiddin Mavlyanov as Herman,  Roman Burdenko as Count Tomskij, Alexey Markov as Prince Yeletsky, and Julia Gertseva as the Countess in a new production conducted by Valery Gergiev.
