Jenůfa at the Wiener Staatsoper

Ms. Grigorian returns to another one of her highly acclaimed roles; the title role in Jenůfa by Leos Janáček at the Wiener Staatsoper. Premiered in 1904 at the Národní Divadlo, Brno, this harrowing opera is based on the play Její pastorkyňa by Gabriela Preissová. Ms. Grigorian’s performance at the Staatsoper Berlin last season was praised by Platea Magazine, which claimed: “Grigorian is one of the most fascinating singers on the current operatic scene. The beauty of her timbre, the perfect emission, the security in the whole tessitura (her high notes are beautiful, never shrill, perfect), and the perfect adaptation of her voice to the demands of the score make her an ideal Jenufa”. On this occasion, she shares the stage with David Butt Philip as Laca Klemen, Michael Laurenz as Stewa Buryjia, Margarita Nekrasova as the old Burya, and Eliška Weissová as Kostelnicka. Maestro Tomáš Hanus conducts.

Listen to her sing an extract from the show that she performed at London's Royal Opera House here.

Performances are set for October 9th, 12th, 15th, 19th, and 23rd.

There will be a broadcast of the performance on 15th October at 7 pm available to watch on the Wiener Staatsoper website for 72 hours.
